Theresa Le Flem
Local author Theresa became captivated by Guernsey’s unique history, especially the German Occupation, when she moved to the island five years ago. She has published six novels, plus an anthology of her poems and drawings. Theresa enjoys writing about traumatic historical or sociological situations. Her novels cover a broad subject area: from the 1984 National Miners’ Strike to the threatened closure of a small Cornish café.
Her imagination is sparked when hearing of ordinary people undergoing trauma. Wherever there are people under duress, she believes there is a story waiting to be told. Born in London, the daughter of expressionist artist Cyril Hamersma, she grew up in a creative household and studied Art. She still paints, in oils and mixed media, but her passion has always been writing.
Having family and grandchildren living in England, New York, Texas and New Zealand, she has made her home in Guernsey and lives with her husband Graham, a retired electrical engineer. Recently she has formed a new local writers’ group: The Guernsey Society of Authors.
