

Gregory Stevens Cox MBE
Gregory Stevens Cox has been one of the Bailiwick’s leading historians since his arrival in Guernsey in the 1960s. He has published a wide range of books and monographs on local history, specialising in Victor Hugo’s exile, the history of St Peter Port and Guernsey Merchants. His PhD thesis was published as St Peter Port 1680-1830: The History of an International Entrepot by Boydell Press in 1999.
He has also published many other works through his own publishing company, Toucan Press – and was one of the founders of the Victor Hugo in Guernsey Society. He was awarded an MBE for services to Guernsey history and culture in 2014.
