Simon Hamon: Life Lives Beyond the Grave

at Guille-Allès Library
Tuesday 23 April from 18:00 to 19:00

Life Lives Beyond the Grave tells the story of German soldiers, sailors, airmen and other servicemen who died in the Bailiwick between 1940 and 1943, in many cases for the first time.

In a quiet corner of Fort George in St Peter Port lies a military cemetery. Originally for men of the British Army garrison who died in the late 19th century, in 1940 it was adopted by German forces to bury their dead during the Occupation. The cemetery is the last resting place for 111 German soldiers, sailors, airmen and other servicemen who died in the Bailiwick between 1940 and 1943 – but who were they? And how did they die? Life Lives Beyond the Grave tells the story of these men and their fate, in many cases for the first time.
