Steve Jones

Steve Jones is a Senior Research Fellow at University College, London and has worked at universities in the USA, Australia and Africa. He gave the Reith Lectures in 1991 and presented a BBC TV series on human genetics and evolution in 1996. He appears frequently on radio and television.

In the 1990s and again from 2008 to June 2010 he was Head of the Department of Genetics, Evolution and Environment at University College London. His writing won him the Royal Society Michael Faraday Prize ‘for his numerous, wide ranging contributions to the public understanding of science in areas such as human evolution and variation, race, sex, inherited disease and genetic manipulation’. He has never been one to shy away from controversial subjects.

Steve will be speaking about his latest book, No Need for Geniuses: Revolutionary Science in the Age of the Guillotine. He will also be taking part in the Festival’s Education Programme.
