We've had some amazing feedback on our super-successful fifth Guernsey Literary Festival and are proud to share some of it with you.

It takes both courage and vision to arrange a major festival in Guernsey. To attract visitors who have to make the short sea crossing by sea or air the event has to be special. Having participated in the festival for the first time I can see what the attractions are.

First, there is the friendliness and enthusiasm of the people coupled with the natural beauty of the island. Real books are still treasured and appreciated and authors who appear are able to speak to an informed and interested audience.

I especially appreciated being able to visit and speak at a High School and also to visit the local prison. I have visited many penal establishments in my life and the Guernsey prison rates highly in my opinion as a place where there is a possibility of real rehabilitation taking place. The restaurant we attended on the first night served superb food and is well worth a visit. If you want a genuine bargain and good company to boot a visit to the Caritas Cafe in Mill Street will serve you a full English breakfast for £4!

This establishment overseen by Richard, a local clergyman, is a place where ex-offenders can get a helping hand but you don't have to be an offender to enjoy eggs and bacon or Guernsey cream cakes!

Of all the festivals I have attended in the past years Guernsey rates as one of the very best.
