Terry Waite

After enduring nearly five years of solitary confinement, Terry Waite discovered that he was drawn to find out more about the power of solitude. The result is his haunting book, Solitude, which recalls his encounters with people who have experienced very different ways of being solitary, sought and unsought. Terry, the honorary Chairman of the LitFest, will show how solitude shapes the human soul - and how it can be a force for good, if we can only learn to use it well.
