Book Bench ProjectThe KPMG sponsored bookbench for the 2015 Guernsey Literary Festival has been designed as a tribute to the classic Guernsey novel “THE BOOK OF EBENEZER LE PAGE”. I have read the book many times and it is undoubtedly my favourite novel, one that sets my heart soaring and has left me in tears time and time again.
I began my research last year in the Priaulx Library; its wonderful archives provided me with just what I needed: faces from the past, faces that could have been Ebenezer, Liza, Jim and Raymond. In designing
the bench, I chose to use a mixture of these original images as well as new source materials.
At the beginning of the project I enlisted the help of two young local artists, Lauren Perry and Sam O’Neill. We worked in acrylic, building up layers to create a vibrant and complex paint surface. We hope you will
enjoy a moment of quiet with Ebenezer and then go home and pick up this wonderful book to make the whole momentous journey of his life between its salt-scented pages.
