Date and time
France’s great novelist Victor Hugo lived in exile in Guernsey for 15 years, between 1855 and 1870, completing his masterpieces Les Miserables and Toilers of the Sea at his splendid home, Hauteville House. The house in St Peter Port, a short walk from the harbour, is a must-visit; it is preserved exactly as it was and shows Hugo’s great creativity in its rich decoration.
Guided tours between 10:00 and 16:00 (last admission). Open every day except Wednesday. Each visit lasts one hour and the maximum size of the group is 10.
